Cunningham Park ES PTA Minutes

October 9, 2018

The meeting was called to order at 7:03pm by Tracy McCarty, President. 45 people were in attendance.

Motion to approve the September 2018 Minutes by Jen Moseley and second by Taylor Ritter.

Membership Drive – Tracy spoke on the Parent Teacher Association and its goal to support the school, the teachers and staff, and students.  We fund and organize many things, including assemblies (Dr. Recess), field trip transportation, school garden, library, website, fun activities for kids, educational opportunities for parents, etc. We raise money for play-based learning and teacher professional development (technology in the last two years).  Research proves parental involvement in school is a key predictor in a child’s educational success.  PTA helps parents be involved.  When parents join the PTA, it shows their support.  PTA members do not have to attend meetings or volunteer, but we would love it if they do!

Hallowingo – Angy Friedman spoke on the need for volunteers, donated prizes and baked goods.

Cardinal Campaign – This is the 3rd year of the fundraiser where children do not sell anything! The goal for this year is $15,000 and 100% of all funds raised support CPES.  All donations are tax-deductible and a receipt will be provided.  The funds will be used for teacher professional development as they take on new challenges.  Additionally, students will help decide what “Learning Through Play” looks like, staff and PTA will work with students through Problem Based Learning (PBL) process, and the students will present at the Dec. 11 PTA meeting to request funding, supplies, and expertise for their ideas.

The class with the highest participation percentage (not dollar amount given) will win a “Morning at the Movies” in the library.  There will be a gift basket drawing for anyone who receives a corporate match.

The Campaign is underway ($1325 currently raised) and concludes on November 16.  For more information and to donate go to www.cpes-pta.org/CardinalCampaign.

Principal Comments – Katie Le spoke on Dr. Recess and Upping our Game.

Tracy spoke on the Teacher Raffle for the Membership Drive.  We drew three teacher names, one of which is Mrs. Orndorff, who is in attendance tonight.  Thank you for joining the PTA.

Teacher Representative Comments – Mrs. Orndorff & Ms. Trivoulides thanked the PTA for the interpretation headsets, meals and babysitting at each PTA meeting.  The new water fountains are hugely popular.  Thank you for the generous contribution.

Concept-Based Instruction/AAP – Dan Solsberry (AART) showed a video on how concept based instruction is being driven by the changing nature of economic development.  Katie Le led a group activity about connections and focusing on the prism this year.  Katie went on to explain how teachers are enhancing the students learning.  Dan finished by reviewing examples of recent activities.
